Stema Welding Secures FHLB Grant

Congratulations to Stema Welding, a local business known for its exceptional metalwork and dedication to craftsmanship, for receiving an Elevate Grant in the amount of $20,000, a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB). This significant financial boost, facilitated by Nicole Drake, Senior Vice President of Citizens National Bank, has enabled  the purchase of a state-of-the-art plasma table, marking a significant step forward in the company's capabilities.

As a member of FHLB, Citizens National Bank has access to grant programs for its business customers and can aid in the application process when grant monies become available. The Elevate small business grant aids the growth and development of small businesses in Michigan and Indiana. The grant  money can be used for capital expenditures, workforce training, working capital, and a variety of other needs.

Founded in 2017 by Eric Stema, a Cheboygan native with deep roots in the community and a passion for welding, Stema Welding has quickly established itself as a leader in custom metal fabrications. Eric's journey in welding began at Cheboygan High School's welding program, further refined through years of dedicated work at Moran Iron Works and teaching at the Industrial Arts Institute. His commitment to quality and innovation has been the cornerstone of Stema Welding's success.

The acquisition of the plasma table is set to revolutionize Stema Welding's production process, allowing for more intricate and detailed metal cuttings, expanding the range of projects the company can undertake, and significantly reducing turnaround times. This investment not only enhances Stema Welding's service offering but also underscores the company's ongoing commitment to leveraging innovative technology to meet the needs of their clients.

Eric Stema expressed his gratitude for the grant, stating, "This grant is a game-changer for us. It allows us to not only expand our business and take on more work but also to continue to innovate in the metalworking industry. We're grateful for the support from the Federal Home Loan Bank and the assistance from Nicole Drake and Citizens National Bank in making this happen."

In line with its growth trajectory, Stema Welding is also pleased to announce the expansion of its team, with plans to hire a third full-time staff member this summer. This expansion is a testament to the business's solid growth and commitment to creating jobs within the community.

Citizens National Bank's Nicole Drake remarked, "Supporting local businesses like Stema Welding is at the heart of what we do. Eric's dedication to his craft and his business acumen are impressive. We are thrilled to play a part in Stema Welding's growth and look forward to seeing the company's continued success."

Stema Welding is poised for an exciting future, with the new plasma table enhancing its ability to serve its customers better and continue contributing to the local economy.

“If we can help one business, or twenty, I’m here to aid and support in any way that I can through the various programs available to Citizens National through the Federal Home Loan Bank,” said Drake. The new round of Elevate Grants is currently open until April 30, 2024.

Last year Nicole Drake worked with  Lindsey Clark, owner of Urban Bird & Company in downtown Cheboygan, MI to help secure an Elevate Grant from the FHLB) to be used for improvements to her store.  If you have any questions about this or other  grant programs, please contact Nicole Drake at 231-627-7115, or email her at [email protected].
