Primary Function: The Director of Brand & Community Relations is responsible for stewarding the Bank’s brand identity, public reputation, and community presence. This role leads traditional marketing, creative production, public relations, and community engagement efforts while ensuring brand consistency and regulatory compliance across all touchpoints.

The Director of Brand & Community Relations plays a key role in strengthening trust, visibility, and long-term relationships within the communities the Bank serves.

Location: This role is an in-person role in Northern Michigan. This role will work out of CNB branches and in the communities we serve.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Brand & Creative Leadership:

  • Own and protect the Bank’s brand identity, visual standards, and written voice
  • Develop and maintain Brand Voice Guidelines aligned with visual brand standards
  • Lead graphic design and creative production for print, signage, in branch materials, and community assets
  • Ensure all materials meet brand, accessibility, and compliance expectations

Traditional Advertising & Media:

  • Design and manage print advertising, billboards, signage, and in branch collateral
  • Write, record, and manage radio advertising, including scheduling and approvals
  • Oversee print and radio advertising budgets and invoices
  • Coordinate with third party vendors as needed

Public Relations & Reputation Management:

  • Write and distribute press releases
  • Serve as a liaison with local media outlets
  • Participate in interviews and media outreach as appropriate
  • Support proactive storytelling that reinforces the Bank’s values and stability

Community Relations & Events:

  • Maintain relationships with chambers of commerce and community organizations
  • Own sponsorship and donation budgets, including review, approval, and payment processing
  • Plan, coordinate, and attend community facing and Bank hosted events
  • Represent the Bank at civic and community functions

Internal Communications & Employee Engagement:

  • Support internal communications through the employee intranet
  • Coordinate new hire welcome items and professional branding materials
  • Manage business cards, name plates, and headshots
  • Support employee recognition, retirements, and engagement initiatives

Digital & Content Support:

  • Design creative assets for email marketing and social media
  • Post approved content to social media and intranet platforms
  • Capture photography at community and employee events

Collaboration:

  • Partner with the Director of Digital Marketing & Strategy on omnichannel campaigns
  • Participate in shared creative, copywriting, and video initiatives
  • Support cross training and coverage as needed

Compliance, Risk & Governance:

  • Partner closely with Compliance, Legal, and Risk teams to ensure all marketing materials meet regulatory standards
  • Maintain approval workflows and documentation for audit and regulatory review
  • Comply with all laws, regulations, bank policies and procedures, including specifically Citizens National Bank’s Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering Policy and procedures, and its Customer Identification Program.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in brand management, communications, or community relations
  • Strong graphic design and creative production skills
  • Experience managing external vendors and budgets
